Reliable, out-of-box solution coupled with flexible configurations makes the QC890 the ideal choice for customers who appreciate best-in-class value in a verifier.

What is barcode verification?

Testing the barcode to assure it’s parameters conform to industry standards and verify the content is correct. Barcodes are usually evaluated and given a grade of A through F.

Why verify barcodes?

Simply, good verification will assure the barcode will be readable by all parties in the supply chain, facilitating speedy, accurate inventories and movement of goods from manufacturer to wholesaler to retailer and user.

Criteria for verification

Specific items tested in the barcode verification process include:
  • Code Content
  • Code Symbology
  • Readability-an overall evaluation
  • Bar growth-tolerances on bar width
  • Quiet Zone-Clear area before and after the code
  • Reflectivity
  • Contrast of printed code

Selecting a verifier

Determine which symbologies are in use. Verifier models are available for specific industries where unique codes are used. For example HIBBIC is used in healthcare and all verifiers may not read and analyze this code.

Define the density of the codes to be tested. Most barcodes are scalable. They can be printed at a variety of densities so the light or dark bars(called the “X” factor) in the code can vary. When using a wand reader in the verifier system the optical aperture of the wand must be in specific relation to the “X” factor of the code for valid readings. If codes of multiple densities are to be verified, multiple wand readers may be required. Gun style verifiers will read most densities eliminating the need for multiple wands. However, guns will not necessarily perform all the tests required by ANSI Standards.

Many users provide us with samples of their codes for evaluation to enable us to recommend which verifier may be the right choice for the application. Call us at 800 729-2444; we look forward to the opportunity to assist you.
